PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Thirty years experience of agriculture and agribusiness in 28 countries throughout Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe with supervision of contracts in a further 50 countries. Skills include business planning and development, preparation of tenders, negotiation and the management of a wide range of activities and fields covering over 300 projects in total: trade development, investment promotion, privatisation and restructuring, micro / small and medium enterprise development, commercial agriculture and project management for the design and construction of processing facilities.


EXPERIENCE

1997 to date: Managing Director, Belmont Management Consultants Limited. Provision of expertise in Business Planning, Trade Development and Investment Promotion. Responsible for identifying, winning and supervising over 60 projects in 20 countries.

2004 to date: Founder of the ADEPT Foundation, promoting micro-enterprise development

2002-04: Director, Transylvanian Management Services (UK) Ltd. Development of agribusiness investment portfolio (vertically integrated organic farming, food processing and marketing) and private sector partner for the ADEPT project.

1987-97: Divisional Director / Regional Manager, Cargill Technical Services Limited (incorporating The British Cotton Growing Association and from 1990 Minster Agriculture). From 1994-97 responsible for identifying, winning and managing all consultancy activities in the Africa & Middle East Region. From 1990-94 responsible for managing the preparation of all proposals for the global business. From 1987-90 responsible for identifying and developing agribusiness opportunities and for project supervision, management and backstopping of consultancy teams in the field.

1980-87: Senior Consultant, Minster Agriculture Ltd. Gained extensive experience of development planning, project management and in particular farm management, crop and livestock production and mechanisation. Held business development responsibilities for East, Central and Southern Africa and latterly served as acting General Manager.

1975-79: Zambia: Farm Manager and Registered Seed Grower on mixed commercial farms, Tiger Estates (5,000 acres) and Mkushi River Ranch (10,000 acres).

1973-75: Zambia: Agriculturalist, Oxfam/VSO, Chizera Rural Development Project, North Western Province. Manager of farmers co-operative and trading business.
